#GivingTuesday is a time to pull back from the retail mayhem of #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday. As an international day of charitable giving, today is the day to give thanks. Most people choose to give thanks by donating to their favorite cause or nonprofit. Others express their gratitude or appreciation by making a personal phone call, a text, an email, or even a hand written letter.

At Williams Whittle, we celebrate the art of gratitude. As an agency that specializes in nonprofit marketing, we rely on goodwill from PSA Directors across the country to choose to air spots for our nonprofit clients. When they do air our PSAs, we thank them with a gratitude mailer.

After a PSA has aired for 9-12 months, we pull a list of all PSA directors that aired the spot and develop customized creative for each client.

For the USO, we always thanked PSA Directors with USO merchandise.

For American Red Cross, we created a simple thank you note from the advertising manager with a wax
letter seal with the button logo on it. The thank you note has a stand so that it can be displayed on
desk or bookshelf.

For the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), we kept the theme of the ad that featured “I Dream of Jeannie” star Barbara Eden and purchased magic lamps with a note from the UPSIS Inspector in Charge. The box read “Open for a little magic.”

For the Mattress Recycling Council, we gave PSA directors environmentally-friendly flower seed packets along with a thank you note from the marketing director.

After distributing our gratitude mailers, we frequently do on-site visits to speak directly with PSA Directors one-on-one. We have found many of our clients’ gratitude mailers sitting on their desks, or framed on their walls. It helps them remember who we are and whom we represent.

Showing gratitude is an overlooked marketing tool that all marketers should add into their toolkit. So today, we give thanks to all our clients, vendors, PSA Directors, partners, employees past and present, and friends. We value your business and your support. Thank you!
